V. Monitoring of Lead Firm Agreements

During the implementation of initiatives by Lead Firms it is important for project staff to monitor the activities to ensure they are being conducted properly and according to the technical/financial support agreement. This subfolder includes monitoring tools and checklists for project staff to use when conducting M&E activities.

5.1 LF Training/Promotion Event Monitoring Checklist

This document, filled out by the project’s field staff attending LF training/ promotion events, helps to document the implementation of LF-led activities. It includes questions such as: a) Are the agreed-upon materials and strategy being used? b) Are the number of expected participants showing up?, etc. Project staff can use this document to provide feedback to the LF on how to improve implementation and bring back to their office to share with colleagues to demonstrate/document how successfully the LF initiatives (being supported by the project) are being implemented and the impact they are generating.

This is similar to the document above, but it focuses on “field days” held by LFs. These events can involve a large number of local stakeholders and producers and are frequently organized in conjunction with the agricultural harvest from a LF demonstration plot. Field days can also be used to demonstrate standalone products.

This is an example of a comprehensive M&E system to monitor the impact of a market system development program targeting the agricultural seed market system. It includes worksheets that present a graphic of the targeted results chain, MRM plan, LF events and participants, calculation of multipliers, etc.
